Serenity Funeral Home Obituaries Mobile AL - ILLONZO RAY 'JOE' PHIPPS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ilonzo Ray 'Joe' Phipps, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, on Thursday, December 20, 2012. He was 65 years young at the time of his passing.

Born in Fanrock, West Virginia to the late Lester Ray Phipps and Louisa Nester Fuson, Joe grew up with a strong sense of values and morals that stayed with him throughout his life. After serving in the Navy, he went on to become the proprietor of Pine Lake in Wayne, where he would often meet up with his friends.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Sharlane Shin Phipps; two daughters, Penny Shatley and Angela Ely; one son, Lonnie Phipps; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and two sisters. He also leaves behind four brothers and a special friend, Cindy Belcher of East Lynn.

In addition to his family, Joe will be deeply missed by his friends and community, who cherished the memories they shared with him. A private service was held at New River Cemetery in Grassy Creek, North Carolina, where he was laid to rest.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Wayne for their love and care during this difficult time. Contributions may be made in Joe's name to Hospice of Huntington.

Rest in peace, Joe. Your legacy will live on through the countless lives you touched throughout your life.
